I've added many features over the past decade, but I also try to preserve old songs, so BeepBox's structure hasn't changed much. The biggest changes are in the right-hand column of menus and settings, and the kinds of sounds you can make. It's not just for chiptunes anymore!

BeepBox has kinda taken a life of its own. I'm even prouder of the communities that have grown around it than I am of BeepBox itself! So I put together this timeline of some notable events and how many songs people shared each month on Twitter. Over 30,000 so far!

BeepBox doesn't make you share songs anywhere in particular, so Twitter is only a small picture of the creativity of BeepBox users. I've heard there are classrooms that use it to teach music composition to kids! I've never had the opportunity to watch one, but it sounds like fun!

There are people sharing BeepBox songs in sub-communities on YouTube, Reddit, SoundCloud, BandCamp, the Scratch forums, and Discord. I think the most popular is @BeepBox_Discord, with about 14,000 songs and a curated list of the best ones. You can join at: http://discord.gg/fdZxm5SpAn

I encourage participating in these, but I don't consider any of them to be an "official" BeepBox community. I didn't create or moderate them. More importantly, I don't think anyone should feel like they have to fit in with a specific club to use BeepBox. BeepBox is for everyone!

That said, I'll give another shoutout to the dorks on Discord. I've learned a lot from them, and maybe even made some friends! The initial development of "modded" versions of BeepBox started there, leading to ModBox, SandBox, JummBox, GoldBox, Pandora's Box, and many others.

So what's the future of BeepBox? Well, I work at my own pace (aka I don't have reliable free time to work on it) so I can't tell you when anything is going to happen, but I can say that I have enough ideas to last me another decade of development. (And automation is coming...)
